There are some things that money cannot buy....but here's a unique opportunity

Because of the generosity of a lot of people Kirsten and Catherine are running a silent auction between now and 30 April 2011. The items in the auction are varied and will appeal to all tastes and include some things that you would just not be able to buy anywhere. You will find all the details on the attached flier and you will see, for example,
    • a Celtic FC top signed by some of the Lisbon Lions (courtesy of Celtic FC),
    • a rugby ball signed by a selection of the Scotland rugby team
    • various items of music memorabilia that are not just rare but otherwise unobtainable (Mark Knopfler (signed drumskin from his last tour and a limited edition signed lithograph), Blue Nile, Prefab Sprouts, Linn record's collection of 10 CDs and so on).
All the items listed will go individually to the highest bidders. There are no reserves set so why not take a chance and put a bid in on anything that catches your eye. You can register your bid by email at the address on the flier or simply pass it on to me and I will ensure they are logged on. All you have to do is bid by 4 p.m. on 30 April either by email to yvonnemalcolm1@hotmail.co.uk or in person at their stall at North Berwick Rugby Seven Tournament, Dunbar Road, North Berwick this Saturday, 30th April, 2011 from 1 - 4 p.m, and then wait to see if you have been successful.

It's a great way of picking up something unique as well as contributing to a very worthwhile project.

Good luck!

    Why donate?

It is estimated that 18 million people have died to date from HIV/AIDS, leaving behind 15 million orphans - in Ghana alone.

Kirsten and Catherine are planning on spending a month next summer volunteering at an orphanage just outside of Accra, Ghana. Whether we are painting a mural, laying bricks, teaching English to the children, teaching sports, helping out at meal times or simply telling a joke, we are helping to secure and maintain a happy future for these children. We need to raise as close to £4000 as we can between us, and we need your help. We are planning bake sales, t-shirt sales, christmas card sales, coffee mornings and plenty more but we desperately need your donations. Whether you give us £1, £100 or anything in between you will be making a huge difference. You can follow our trip on this blog, which we will be updating as much as we can while we are out there.

6 children are orphaned in Ghana every fifteen minutes. That's 60 during a live show of the x-factor, 36 during a football match, 19 during our school lunch time and 2 in the time its taken you to read this.

And these are just children orphaned to HIV/AIDS, it is estimated another 100, 000 are orphaned to other causes like malaria and typhoid.

These children can't live without volunteers like us, and we can't volunteer without generous people like you. Please help us to help them.

    Fundraising

    Hi everyone,

Just a quick note to let everyone know that we raised an astonishing £900 at our coffee morning in the hope rooms through the raffle, tom-bola, home baking, t-shirt sales and donations - Catherine and I were absolutely overwhelmed by the turnout and support, so thank you for all your kind donations.

Our next fundraiser is a ceilidh to be held at the high school on April 9th, 7-11pm - tickets will be £10 (£7 for concessions) and this will include some nibbles. We have a bar provided by Lockett Bros and a raffle with some very sought-after prizes! Tickets are available from Greens and Blues or from Catherine or I directly, we hope to see you all there!

    Thanks again for everything,

    Kirsten x

    Our Fundraising So Far...

    Happy New Year To Everyone!
Thank you to everyone so far who has helped with our fundraising. We felt it was time to update you on what we've done so far.
Having turned both our kitchens into a bakery on a couple of occasions we have successfully held 2 cake sales at school. From this we raised an amazing £150 pounds, which we then used to make our "North Berwick" cards. A local business - Tantallon Press - turned Matthew Gibbons' superb photos of North Berwick in last winter's snowfall, into some great multi purpose cards. We sold these at our school Christmas fair, Lockett Brother's wine tasting and the local play group Christmas fair. In addition, Chris Lockett kindly agreed to sell them at his shop in North Berwick. Thank you so much to everyone mentioned above, you've been fantastic! We still have some cards left, which we are now selling half price at £1.50 for a pack of five. They are blank inside so could be used for several things and really capture North Berwick at its best. We will most likely be selling them at future events but please get in touch if you would like any.
Our next fundraising venture comes in the form of t-shirts. With thanks to Rhona Hartley and her team at PR Promotions (also local) we have designed some fabulous "I ♥ NB" t-shirts (in the style of the classic I ♥ NY). In addition, we have some travel mugs, which look very, like a takeaway coffee cup. Not only are these great for the environment but you can also get 10p off your coffee if you use them in Starbucks! Photos of all these products will follow.
We have plans for coffee mornings, ceilidhs, bag packing and much more so watch this space!

Thank you all so much for your help so far; you are all stars! xx
