It is estimated that 18 million people have died to date from HIV/AIDS, leaving behind 15 million orphans - in Ghana alone.
Kirsten and Catherine are planning on spending a month next summer volunteering at an orphanage just outside of Accra, Ghana. Whether we are painting a mural, laying bricks, teaching English to the children, teaching sports, helping out at meal times or simply telling a joke, we are helping to secure and maintain a happy future for these children. We need to raise as close to £4000 as we can between us, and we need your help. We are planning bake sales, t-shirt sales, christmas card sales, coffee mornings and plenty more but we desperately need your donations. Whether you give us £1, £100 or anything in between you will be making a huge difference. You can follow our trip on this blog, which we will be updating as much as we can while we are out there.
6 children are orphaned in Ghana every fifteen minutes. That's 60 during a live show of the x-factor, 36 during a football match, 19 during our school lunch time and 2 in the time its taken you to read this.
And these are just children orphaned to HIV/AIDS, it is estimated another 100, 000 are orphaned to other causes like malaria and typhoid.
These children can't live without volunteers like us, and we can't volunteer without generous people like you. Please help us to help them.
